FC Barcelona fans have long memories when it comes to promising La Masia talents who once showed the potential to break into the first team, and many still hold a special place in their hearts for those gifted youngsters.
The latest player to spark that nostalgia is Marc Cucurella. According to Mundo Deportivo, the defender spoke to the media ahead of Spain’s match against Egypt at RCDE Stadium, when he was asked about the possibility of returning to Barcelona in the future.
The €50 million-rated Spaniard was candid in his response, saying:
“It would be difficult to refuse. Not only me. I would have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see the decision that is made.”
Cucurella joined La Masia at the age of 14, after starting his youth career at local club Alella and a brief spell at Espanyol. He progressed through the youth ranks, played extensively for Barcelona B, and even made one senior appearance for the first team.
Now 27 years old, Cucurella has established himself as a key player at Chelsea. He joined the Premier League side from Brighton in 2022 and has become one of their most consistent performers at left-back.
In the current 2025–26 season, he has featured regularly, making 24 league starts so far while contributing goals and assists from his position. He remains a regular in the Spanish national team as well.
His contract with Chelsea runs until June 2028. He signed improved terms in 2025, which increased his salary but did not extend the length of the deal. This leaves room for speculation about his long-term future, especially as Barcelona could seek reinforcements at left-back in the upcoming transfer windows.
The Catalans face uncertainty in that area, with Gerard Martin increasingly deployed as a centre-back and Joao Cancelo remaining only on loan. Barcelona have been linked with several full-backs recently, and it remains to be seen whether Cucurella will feature on their shortlist in the coming weeks or months.
