Barcelona star Gerard Martín has this week reiterated his stance that the Blaugrana were altogether hard done by en route to being sent packing from this past season’s Champions League.
Hansi Flick’s troops of course saw their hopes of a historic quadruple dashed in nothing short of devastating fashion last month.
This came by way of a semi-final extra-time exit from the Champions League at the hands of Inter Milan.
After Barcelona had one foot in the tournament’s finale courtesy of a slender lead in the final minutes at San Siro, Francesco Acerbi popped up with a last-gasp strike to send proceedings to extra-time.
Of the opinion that this goal should have been disallowed, though, is the aforementioned Gerard Martín.
Defender Martín was at the heart of a controversial moment in the direct buildup to Acerbi’s equaliser, which saw the Spaniard go to ground under a challenge from Denzel Dumfries.
Many of a Barcelona persuasion quickly made clear their feelings that the challenge was an unfair one, which should have culminated in a free-kick for their side.
And speaking during an interview with Radio MARCA, as cited by Diario Sport, this week, Martín himself backed such calls:
“For me it’s a foul because in the end I’m going to cut the ball, I have my foot in the air and he puts his foot above my ankle. I’ve seen it a thousand times, looking to see if I could have done something else.”
