James Morrison says talks over his West Brom future will wait until the club’s Championship status is confirmed.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 39-year-old is believed to be keen on the role after saying this latest spell has given him the bug, having lifted a side that two months ago appeared bound for League One.

He said he is enjoying the job but wants to reach the end target first, adding that conversations can happen in a couple of weeks.

He has worked with an EFL financial breach charge looming over the club, with possible points deductions and a hearing imminent, yet his side won 2-0 at Preston on Saturday.

This is his third and longest caretaker stint. After a meek defeat at Oxford in late February and a public rebuke, Albion responded with an eight-match unbeaten run before Tuesday’s Watford game. His two earlier caretaker spells totalled three unbeaten games.

If he delivers survival, it would be a tough call for chairman Shilen Patel’s Bilkul Football WBA to overlook him, though the owners may feel a permanent appointment will require more thought.

Albion target a final-day return for captain Jed Wallace, sidelined by a calf issue since late last month. They hope he can face relegated Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday week, May 2. Wallace, 32, is out of contract this summer, and injuries to him, Karlan Grant and Mikey Johnston have forced a rethink out wide.
