The Tigers are preparing for a first transfer window back in the Premier League

Hull City are now preparing to add to their squad for next season's Premier League after clinching promotion at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After all the uncertainty of 'spygate' heading into the Championship play-off final, Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers were able to defy the odds one more time this season by defeating Middlesbrough 1-0 through Oli McBurnie's 95th-minute winner.

The Scotsman was City's marquee signing throughout a season which has included several on and off-pitch issues at the MKM Stadium, including the two-window transfer fee restriction imposed on the club by the EFL last summer, meaning that he and several other new signings could only be recruited on free transfers or loan deals without any additional payments required.

As a result, the Bosnian's side had been written off for the vast majority of the season, but are now Premier League-bound for the first time in nine years, having been relegated after just a solitary campaign back in 2016/17 under the management of Mike Phelan and Marco Silva respectively.

McBurnie's 19th goal of the campaign in all competitions not only saw Hull promoted alongside Coventry City and Ipswich Town, but won the club a reported £215m in prize funds for their North London success - a third which has also ended in a 1-0 victory also.

The East Yorkshire club's players are now celebrating their success with a trip to Las Vegas, as promised by owner, Acun Ilicali, meaning they will not currently care about the fact they are already being made heavy relegation favourites.

As such, a successful summer transfer window is needed, and speculation has already become rife.

Jeff Stelling backs Hull City to make Jamie Vardy transfer move as Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday links reported

The signing of McBurnie was also completed on a free transfer following Las Palmas' relegation from La Liga 12 months ago, with Ilicali admitting he waited two months for the 29-year-old to sign on the dotted line.

Ironically, talkSPORT pundit and former Soccer Saturday presenter, Jeff Stelling, believes that the Tigers could look to move for Jamie Vardy, who is set to become a free agent following Cremonese's relegation to Serie B.

The 39-year-old left Leicester City on a free transfer last term, and has already been linked with a potential sentimental return to the King Power Stadium after their relegation to League One, as well as Sheffield Wednesday - his boyhood club.

Vardy scored 145 times in 372 Premier League appearances for Leicester, as well as winning the division in 2015/16 after breaking the record for goals scored in successive matches between August and November 2015.

After believing Hull could also plot a move for former defender, Andy Robertson, following promotion, Stelling touched on Vardy, saying: "I'm not sure whether he will be coming back to the Premier League...

"But when I look at Hull, the way they play, it might suit Jamie Vardy if he wants another crack at the Premier League.

"They've gone for experienced players, you look at their squad, it's bang full of experienced players," he added.

"And you don't get much more experienced than Jamie Vardy.

Hull City's chances of plotting Jamie Vardy move seem extremely unrealistic

Despite the fact that it is easy to see a player of Vardy's personality slotting seamlessly into Hull's squad under Jakirovic, it does seem extremely unrealistic at this moment in time.

As Stelling alluded to, McBurnie, as well as supporters, will feel he deserves another shot at the top-flight after missing out on Scotland's World Cup squad, but when it comes to adding further depth and quality, the Tigers, with the new pool of finances at their disposal, could certainly attract young and hungry players to the club from across Europe, rather than being restricted this time around in the market.

However, Vardy did score seven times in 29 appearances this season, and stranger things have certainly happened in football.
