Jamie Vardy is a legend at Leicester City and a target for boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday but interest is growing in the veteran striker...
Sheffield Wednesday are keen on Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, with the striker leaving Cremonese in Italy following their relegation from Serie A.
Jamie Vardy has interest from boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday, with his contract coming to an end in Italy after just one season in the top flight. He scored seven and assisted three in 29 appearances in 2025/26, having left Leicester last summer.
It's since been revealed that Vardy is leaving Cremonese amid interest from Wednesday, as the striker looks to continue playing and have mark another chapter in his career in 2026/27. It is the season when Vardy will turn 40 in January, but he is keen to continue playing.
However, Leicester could also rival Wednesday for Vardy's services, with the striker scoring 200 goals in 500 appearances during his 13-year association with the Foxes and becoming a club legend as one of their greatest ever players.

In truth, Vardy's wages in Italy could be an issue for Sheffield Wednesday. However, the positive is that Vardy has admitted his dream has always been to represent Wednesday.
But whether he returns is still up for debate, with other clubs reportedly interested in the centre-forward. Not only that, but Vardy's current wishes are becoming clearer in what could be a blow for Wednesday and Leicester.
According to the BBC, it is understood Vardy is still enjoying his football and believes he can continue playing at a high level. The problem for the League One sides is that the striker believes that includes playing in the Premier League, and it is unclear if he would go to England's third tier instead.
The report states that Vardy could go in the same direction as former England teammate Raheem Sterling recently, with Dutch side Feyenoord reportedly among the clubs to have shown interest this summer.
Of course, Vardy has previously admitted he loved scoring against Sheffield United, which the Owls fans will love. That being said, the competition may be too fierce given the finances they can provide the striker, which is partly why a number of Wednesday fans do not believe Vardy's return is the right time.

Having scored plenty in both the Premier League and Championship, Vardy would surely bag for fun in League One. But interest from a Dutch giant perhaps signifies the sort of competition Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday will face this summer.
Even a Vardy slowing down in recent years has shown that he has something to offer in the big leagues. Feyenoord will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season and other clubs of that ilk are sure to be interested.
Had either of Wednesday or Leicester been in the Championship, it may have changed things. But Vardy is likely to see his level as above League One currently, even if he cannot complete 90 minutes regularly wherever he goes.
The question is whether he will still be going aged 40/41 in 2027/28, as many Wednesday fans are surely desperate to see one of their own represent them. He's an iconic footballing figure and it feels wrong in so many ways to say that he has not featured for his boyhood team.
