Andrée Jeglertz has heaped praise on Alex Greenwood after the City captain received her MBE at Windsor Castle earlier this week.
Greenwood was named in the 2026 New Year’s Honours list having been at the top of women’s football for well over a decade.
The 32-year-old was invited to a special ceremony on Wednesday to collect the award and Jeglertz says everyone at City is proud of the captain and her impact on the game.
“It’s a fantastic honour for her of course, for the Club and for everybody around women’s football. I think it’s a fantastic thing, well deserved,” he began.
“She’s a great leader, footballer, person. She means a lot to us and we’re of course very happy with her that she’s getting this award.
“So, for her to be in our squad and this situation where we are at the moment of feeling the attention of the games but also having people who’ve been in this situation before is crucial.
“She’s one who’s always focusing on the next target, not thinking too much about what if. She focuses on each training session, game and that’s what we need from her at the moment.”
Ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa, the boss specified one fitness concern within the squad.
“Grace Clinton has had some small issues this week which we’re assessing to see where it ends.
“Otherwise everything’s been very good,” he stated.
The 11:55 (UK) kick-off at Villa Park will be our first game in three weeks after an extended international break.
With City eight points clear at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League with six games to go, every match is crucial.
Having reported back to the City Football Academy on Tuesday, we’ve been in training all week ahead of facing the ninth-placed side.
However, Jeglertz says it’s not easy for sides who’ve missed most of their squad during that period to regain the momentum they had before.
“It always takes a couple of days,” he began
“Their mind is also what they did in the last weeks with their national teams, when they played different styles so it takes a couple of days to get into it but it’s gone smoothly.
“We’ve been clear of what we’ve been doing during the year, the players are familiar with our way of training and how we are playing.
“During the game it might take some minutes into the game before everything’s 100% perfect.”
