PA reports that Jermain Defoe has been appointed Woking manager, with Paul Bracewell named his assistant.
Interim bosses Craig Ross and Jake Hyde will remain on the staff alongside Dale Gorman. Ross and Hyde will oversee Tuesday’s home league match against Altrincham.
Defoe described Woking as a historic club with big potential and said he was delighted to join the project and eager to begin.
The former England striker has coached in Tottenham’s academy and worked as part of a four-man caretaker team at Rangers in 2021.
He had recently been linked with a possible return to Tottenham.
Chairman Todd Johnson said Defoe’s playing record speaks for itself but the club valued his vision, standards and emphasis on leadership and player development. He added they have a clear plan and believe Defoe can build on firm foundations and drive the next phase.
As a player, Defoe featured for West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland, and scored 20 goals in 57 England appearances.
