Sunderland could revisit a move for Jhon Lucumi this summer, with Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting Bologna have only a 10% chance of keeping the centre-back.
The Black Cats pursued Lucumi last summer without success, instead adding Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete to their defence. With Luke O’Nien short of minutes and form in the Premier League, and Mukiele frequently rotating with Trai Hume at right-back, centre-back is thought to be a position they will target again this summer.
Lucumi joined Bologna from Genk in 2022 and has thrived at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. He has made 149 appearances, lifted the 2024/25 Coppa Italia and helped secure Champions League qualification.
This season he leads the team with 168 defensive contributions in Serie A, averaging 1.4 interceptions and 0.5 blocks per 90 minutes, ranking first and second among Bologna players. The club sit ninth, closing in on another top-half finish.
The Colombia defender has one year left on his contract, and with no new deal agreed, this summer looks the last realistic window for a sizable fee. His role for Colombia at this summer’s World Cup in North America could inflate his value and invite rival bids Sunderland would need to contend with.
