Joan Laporta says Barcelona’s bid for Julian Alvarez remains on the table | OneFootball

Joan Laporta used his first address of a fourth term as Barcelona president to confirm a bid for Julian Alvarez, adding it will stay in place.

According to L'Équipe, he said sporting director Deco had submitted the proposal and that Alvarez had wanted to join Barcelona long before his Manchester City spell. The offer was lodged with Atlético de Madrid.

Despite Atlético de Madrid’s refusal, Laporta said the proposal remains firm and will be maintained as long as necessary. He stressed Barcelona will not be at the mercy of Atlético’s decision, and that they are open to further talks.

Alvarez is being pursued by Barcelona and Real Madrid, with the Madrid club confirming their interest.

The forward previously expressed a desire to move to Catalonia during the World Cup, after Argentina beat Austria 2-0 in their second group game.
