João Pinheiro came under fire in Bayern v PSG on 6 May after a contentious non-penalty call involving João Neves, with the French side advancing to the Champions League final.

In the first half, with PSG leading 1-0, Vitinha tried to clear under pressure and struck the ball against Neves’s hand inside the PSG area at 31 minutes. Glorioso 1904 reports that the incident had a direct impact on the tie.

The Allianz Arena crowd demanded a spot-kick and Bayern players surrounded the Portuguese referee, urging a decision. Pinheiro declined to award a penalty.

The AF Braga official remained under scrutiny for the rest of the match and afterwards, facing strong criticism from players, Vincent Kompany and the Bayern Munich CEO.

João Neves and former Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos have booked their places in the final. PSG will have the chance to defend the title they won last season. They will face Arsenal, where former Sporting forward Viktor Gyökeres plays.
