João Rego will report for Benfica’s pre-season aiming to impress Marco Silva, with his future still open for 2026/27.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Seixal academy midfielder wants more first team minutes next season and has not ruled out a summer loan.

After a positive start, the Portugal under-20 international lost his place in the senior rotation. He made 13 appearances up to January and scored against Vitória de Guimarães, then featured sparingly in the run-in.

Winter interest arrived, with a move to Greek side PAOK under consideration and talks held with Famalicão, but he stayed at Benfica and extended his contract to 2030.

With his long-term future secured, he returned to the B team to maintain sharpness and continue his development. Marco Silva’s appointment could hand him a fresh opening with the senior squad.

Meanwhile he is thriving for Portugal’s under-20s at the Toulon Tournament, scoring five in four matches under Oceano Cruz. Used centrally, where he feels most comfortable, he continues to press his case for greater involvement in 2026/27.
