Sevilla said in a statement that Joaquín Caparrós, the club’s honorary president, has been diagnosed with colon cancer and is already receiving treatment. The club conveyed its full support and affection to the former head coach.
He currently has the backing of his family, friends and the wider Sevilla fanbase. Well-wishes included hopes for a swift recovery.
Praise was given for the strength he showed across his spells in charge, with confidence he will face the illness with his customary grit and courage. Supporters hold Caparrós in deep affection.
A further message urged him not to give up, underlining his close bond with the club and its fans. He remains a central figure in Sevilla’s recent history.
Caparrós was named honorary president in June 2025, a representative role restored by the club. He took on institutional duties, served as an ambassador and acted as a guardian of the club’s identity.
He first arrived in 2000, took Sevilla back to the top flight and later secured UEFA Cup qualification. Across 248 official matches he is the coach who has led Sevilla the most times and he holds the most wins with 112.
He returned in difficult moments to deliver European places and survival in the 2024/25 season, and also worked as director of football and director of talent development.
