Joe Cole on the issues ahead of Eddie Howe’s side taking on Bournemouth.

The Newcastle United boss making his fourth return to the south coast with NUFC, to play the club he performed miracles at.

After a tough Barcelona match where United failed to get the point they deserved, a potentially just as tough game now follows, against a Bournemouth side who could go second in the table with a win today.

Joe Cole talking to Paddy Power ahead of Newcastle United facing Bournemouth in the Premier League:

“I was working on the telly at St James’ Park on Thursday night and it was electric but, like Chelsea, that was a big game for Newcastle and that will have taken a lot out of them.

“Bournemouth have started really well and everyone thought they’d struggle after losing a few of their more important players.

“I fancy a draw in this game, it’s two good sides but Newcastle might take a point after playing Barcelona midweek.

“I think there will be goals in it and Antoine Semenyo’s been in fine form with three goals and two assists so far. I think he’ll score or assist again and he takes those long throws as well which seem to be back in fashion so that’s another avenue.”

Joe Cole with two big predictions there. Seeing a draw as the most likely result and also Antoine Semenyo to score against Newcastle or get an assist.

Bournemouth’s recruitment has been exceptional and they sold a number of star players in the summer to the likes of PSG, Liverpool and Real Madrid, which sums up the perceived quality of signings they’d previously made and Iraola had developed. The Cherries sold more than £200m worth of talent and have reinvested more than £120m this summer in what they hope will turn into similar success stories.

Many people surprised that Semenyo wasn’t one of those who left and as Joe Cole points out, he is a massive threat. Interesting to see what Eddie Howe does today, as with Kieran Trippier limping off on Thursday night, even if that proves to be just cramp and/or fatigue, difficult to see him starting this afternoon. It would appear most likely that we will finally see Lewis Hall come back in on the left and Livramento switch back to the right. I think Hall is a brilliant player but that is a tough reintroduction if up against Semenyo. Tino’s pace would be ideal I think, up against Semenyo, Hall has many qualities but pace not top of them.

Hopefully today will be a case of Newcastle causing the home side more problems at the other end. Difficult to predict what team Eddie Howe will put out today BUT the squad strengthening does mean that we have the likes of Hall, Botman, Woltemade, Murphy and Thiaw as potential starters today, all of who were on the bench against Barcelona.
