The onus to settle João Palhinha’s future lies with Bayern Munich, with Benfica monitoring events, amid uncertainty over Vincent Kompany’s plans, according to Glorioso 1904.

During the Mercado Now programme, it was noted that the Portugal international still has two years on his Bayern deal and that a decision is required if Kompany does not want him.

If Bayern choose not to keep him, two routes were outlined, an amicable termination covering the remainder of his contract, or finding a buyer to resolve the situation.

Bayern were said to be seeking to recoup as much of their investment and have set a high valuation for now. Whether that holds until the window closes, is reduced, or the player stays, remains open, but the club must drive the outcome.

On the mooted Benfica move, the view expressed was that Rui Costa is not prepared to meet the current price. Benfica are thought to be waiting for Bayern to soften their demands, otherwise the German side will have to find another solution rather than the player.
