José Mourinho, the Benfica head coach, has posted an emotional tribute to Silvino Louro, the former goalkeeper who won four championships with the club, following his death on Thursday.
According to Glorioso 1904, Mourinho wrote on social media that he was grieving now but would go on to laugh and remember Louro, adding that he remains loved within the Mourinho family and that he still hears his words before every game.
After hanging up his gloves, Louro became a goalkeeping coach and worked alongside Mourinho for almost two decades. He served at Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and Manchester United, following an initial spell together in Portugal.
More recently, Louro worked in African football with Al-Hilal Omdurman in Sudan in 2021. He had since stepped away from the game, a period marked by health problems that would prove fatal.
Benfica also issued condolences, calling him a defining figure of a generation who honoured the badge. The club highlighted his dedication, professionalism and quality between the posts, noting the indelible mark he left on its history.
