Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Benfica boss Jose Mourinho to return to the club as manager.
Mourinho has reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish side, with the final details of the deal to be finalised.
The 63-year-old has been offered a two-year contract with Real Madrid, and will travel to the Spanish capital to finalise the agreement after the club's fixture with Athletic Bilbao this weekend.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that all parties have agreed on a shock return to the Bernabeu for Mourinho, who spent three seasons with Los Blancos between 2010 and 2013.
Mourinho won the Supercopa de España, Copa del Rey andLa Liga during his first spell at the club, with the latter league title won in record-breaking fashion. Their records included achieving 100 points in a single season, 121 goals scored, and a goal difference of +89.
Mourinho will replace Alvaro Arbeloa as head coach, with the Spaniard to leave after a campaign without silverware. Arbeloa inherited the role from Xabi Alonso in January, after the latter's short-lived reign.
Mourinho returns to Real Madrid from Benfica, having led the Portuguese side through a remarkable Primeira Liga campaign. Despite ending the season unbeaten, Benfica finished third in the table, behind FC Porto and Sporting CP.
