Joao Gomes remains an option on Manchester United’s midfield shortlist ahead of a major summer overhaul.
The Brazilian international is among a lengthy list of Premier League-proven options being considered by INEOS.

He could also prove to be the most straightforward addition, too.
While United think highly of the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, Gomes is almost nailed on to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers if (or perhaps more when) they’re relegated from the top flight in the coming weeks.
The 25-year-old has proven his capability of performing in the division ever since he signed from Flamengo in January 2023, so he’ll be reluctant to spend even a season in the Championship knowing there is interest in him this summer.
Relegation could also force Wolves to accept a lower fee than they’d like, given Gomes will likely be pushing behind the scenes for the board to facilitate his departure if a suitor comes knocking.
Ben Jacobs has reminded United fans this afternoon that the player was ‘discussed’ by club chiefs as recently as January, so his situation is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on.
Elsewhere, he adds that United are now 50/50 on whether they will reignite their pursuit of Carlos Baleba after holding talks with him last year.
Baleba was said to be keen on the move to Old Trafford, but honoured Brighton and Hove Albion’s pleas for him to stay put for at least another campaign.

However, throughout the term, the youngster’s performance levels have dropped in comparison to 2024/2025, prompting United to reevaluate their stance.
