According to L'Équipe, two years after leaving Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp is expected to become Germany's next head coach following their World Cup exit.
Germany were knocked out by Paraguay after a 1-1 draw and a 3-4 defeat on penalties. Julian Nagelsmann resigned on Friday morning despite having two years left on his contract.
The federation accepted his request to be relieved of duties after a very disappointing campaign, and will now seek talks with Klopp about the vacancy. He has signalled initial availability, and remains the DFB's number one candidate with no talks held with other coaches.
A deal is not yet finalised, but could be agreed in the coming days on a four-year contract. At 59, Klopp is attracted by the chance to revive a side that has endured three straight World Cup exits before the last 16.
During the tournament, he has worked as a lead pundit for streaming platform Magenta Sport, travelling widely and watching numerous matches. Early on, after the 7-1 win over Curaçao, he quipped that Nagelsmann was picking the team, for now, which sparked debate.
Immediately after Germany's elimination he was cautious, saying it was not the moment to discuss his future. He is now ready to take the reins of the national side.
