Juventude winless in four, hope 'ex-player curse' helps v Corinthians

On the afternoon of this Sunday (7), Corinthians faces Juventude in the last round of the Brasileirão. The match kicks off at Neo Química Arena, starting at 4pm (Brasília time), with the team from Rio Grande do Sul already relegated, taking the opportunity to test their lineup with an eye on next year's second division.

According to GE, the probable lineup for the Jaconeiro club should include Jandrei; Luan Freitas, Rodrigo Sam, and Abner (Natã or Giraldo); Igor Formiga, Caíque, Mandaca, Nenê, and Marcelo Hermes (Alan Ruschel); Ênio (Scatolin), Gabriel Taliari. Of those mentioned, three have played for Corinthians.

All three, in fact, came up through Corinthians’ youth academy: Rodrigo Sam, center-back, Igor Formiga, right-back, and Luis Mandaca, a versatile player who usually plays as a defensive midfielder. The first, in fact, was champion of the Copinha in the 2015 edition with Timãozinho.

Among these names, the main standout has been Mandaca. The most recent graduate, with three matches played in 2021, he is being scouted by other Série A clubs and could be a departure from Juventude for next year.

Despite the number of possible ‘former player laws’ for the match, Juventude needs to end a negative streak in this final stretch of the Brasileirão. The team led by Thiago Carpini hasn’t won in four rounds, with two losses and two draws in that period. The last victory was against Vasco da Gama, on November 8, away from home.
