Karim Adeyemi riffs on mistake by Borussia Dortmund kit staff | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi was among those attempting to convince teammate Serhou Guirassy not to take a crucial penalty in last night’s Champions League fixture. Adeyemi was asked about Guirassy in the mixed zone last night, but found himself flustered by an unexpected question concerning his Bundesliga colleague. An Italian journalist wanted to know something about Guirassy totally unrelated to the penalty take.

Guirassy’s UCL tricot did not feature his name at all. Instead, “Dortmund” appeared both above and below the Guinean striker’s No. 9. The most likely explanation probably relates to a simple foul-up by the BVB kit staff. Dortmund’s special Champions League jersey – which traditionally features a different sponsor than the club’s Bundesliga jersey – simply wasn’t stamped properly.

Adeyemi – after answering several questions in German during his mixed zone interview – had to ask the Italian journalist to repeat his question in English first. Adeyemi admitted he hadn’t noticed and joked about the sponsorship angle. An official BVB explanation is still pending.

“I didn’t even see it to be honest,” Adeyemi responded in English. “Is that really true? It must have been mistake from the staff, but I didn’t notice it and to be honest I don’t know. Maybe marketing.”

The last line elicited a round of chuckles from the assembled reporters. Adeyemi had to laugh himself at the reaction to the “marketing” statement.
