Karim Benzema has named Ronaldo Nazário as the best striker in his eyes.

"Ronaldo was my biggest inspiration in football; he was always the best. I don’t think there’s another striker like him in my eyes." "I’m a striker too, and as I said, there’s no one like him. Everyone knows he’s my favourite player, and for me, he’s still the best." He told Canal Goat.

Cristiano Ronaldo has often said he is the greatest player in history, while many experts place Lionel Messi ahead.

Benzema’s latest remarks have been viewed as reopening old wounds after tensions between the pair last season. Following Al-Ittihad’s 4-1 win over Al-Hilal, he said: "Everyone is free to say what they like. If he believes he’s the best player in history, that’s his opinion."

"For me, there are many great players—I personally prefer Ronaldo Nazário, the Brazilian legend—but at the same time, Cristiano is still Cristiano." He added: "I don’t like comparing players; each player has their own story, and Cristiano has his own career."

He later reposted a photo of himself in Ronaldo’s shirt on his official Instagram account, which many interpreted as another dig at Cristiano.

Benzema inspired Al-Hilal to a 6-0 win over Al-Khulood on Thursday. He hit a hat-trick, his second for the club, taking him to eight goals in seven appearances for the ‘Leaders of Asia’. It was the 20th hat-trick of his career and his seventh in Saudi Arabia.
