Flamengo coach Leonardo Jardim meets Jorge Jesus in Rio | OneFootball

Leonardo Jardim met Jorge Jesus in Rio on Monday. The Flamengo head coach shared a photo of the reunion on social media, according to Globo.com.

Jesus was at the Maracanã on Saturday for Flamengo's win over Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro, receiving applause from some supporters. It was his first time watching the team there since leaving in 2020. He arrived with compatriot Alfredo Almeida, the club's academy director.

After the game, Jardim said he hoped to meet his compatriot, noting their long relationship. He said he had not yet spoken to Jesus and would try to have dinner or lunch the following day, with work leaving little time, but that if possible they wanted to be together. He added that Jesus called him in 2020 about taking the job, believing he was a good solution for Flamengo, which only came to pass in 2026.

Later the same day, Jesus also met members of the 2019 squad, including Filipe Luís, Bruno Henrique, Rodrigo Caio, Diego, Vitinho and Diego Alves. He is holidaying in Brazil after leaving Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia.

Jesus coached Flamengo in 58 matches across 2019 and 2020, with 44 wins, 10 draws and only four defeats. His 81.6% win rate is the club's best this century, alongside five trophies, the Carioca, Brasileiro, Libertadores, Supercopa and Recopa.
