Keeper fails medical at Corinthians, returns to Fortaleza

The goalkeeper João Ricardo, who had a pre-agreement to join Corinthians, failed the club's medical exams and, as a result, returns to Fortaleza. This information was released by journalist Bianca Molina from TNT Sports.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper had been recovering from a shoulder tendon injury since the end of last year. In recent weeks, he had started his first ball training sessions with the northeastern team after undergoing surgery.

João Ricardo was set to join Corinthians to be a 'shadow' for Hugo Souza, who currently competes for the starting position with Felipe Longo and Kauê Camargo, both from the youth academy. He was to be loaned to the Alvinegro until the end of the year.

The goalkeeper had previously worked with coach Dorival Júnior at Ceará in 2022. The coach viewed the arrival of an experienced player positively, aiming to increase competition and squad depth given the intense Brazilian game calendar.

João Ricardo has been with Fortaleza since 2023 and has played over 150 games for the northeastern team, winning two titles: the Campeonato Cearense (2023) and the Copa do Nordeste (2024). The goalkeeper gained national recognition playing for América-MG from 2014 to 2018. He later played for Chapecoense and Ceará before joining Leão in 2023.

This season, it is worth noting, Corinthians has already secured the arrivals of defender Gabriel Paulista, right-back Pedro Milans, midfielder Allan, midfielder Matheus Pereira, midfielders Zakaria Labyad and Jesse Lingard, as well as forward Kaio César.
