The Japan international arrived in early September as a joker signing and had only 15 minutes against Paris FC on Saturday, a 0-0 in Ligue 1.

Only three starters keep their places from that game, Loïs Openda up front, Tyler Morton in midfield and Moussa Niakhaté in defence, who takes the armband.

Rémy Descamps starts in goal, as anticipated in recent days. It is the first time since 2011 that Lyon begin a European match without an academy product, ending a run of 118 consecutive games.

Lyon starting XI: Descamps, Kluivert, Mata, Niakhaté, Ouédraogo, Tessmann, Morton, Nartey, Boudache, Openda, Nakamura.

For Anderlecht, the centre-backs are former Saint-Étienne defender Léo Pétrot and ex-Strasbourg Andrew Omobamidele, with last season’s Ligue 2 top scorer Tawfik Bentayeb on the bench. Anderlecht XI: Coosemans, who captains, Maamar, Omobamidele, Pétrot, Augustinsson, Llansana, Amane, Aasgaard, Winkler, Cvetkovic, Ambros.
