Former French striker Kévin Gameiro has stepped back onto a football pitch months after announcing his retirement in March 2025, appearing in FC Lorient’s centenary legends game.

According to Superdeporte, he featured in the fixture between Lorient and the 'Team Heroes' selection of former internationals, sharing a dressing room with Laurent Koscielny, Sidney Govou, Robert Pirrès and Javier Pastore.

The celebration spanned the weekend, beginning on Friday with a parade, then on Saturday with concerts and live radio in the town hall square involving club president Loïc Féry and past players.

Sunday brought the arrival of the legends to the stadium to warm ovations, while Lorient unveiled murals marking key dates and a black chequered commemorative kit for the centenary. The shirt carried 'Club Centenaire' on the collar, merged historic and current crests, and listed the names of the first team from 1926 on the back.

Gameiro’s spell at Valencia was significant. He joined in August 2018 from Atlético Madrid for 16 million euros, played 126 official games, scored 28 goals and supplied 12 assists.

His standout moment came in the 2019 Copa del Rey final, where he scored and helped secure the trophy in the club’s centenary year. This one-off return underlined that his connection to the sport remains intact for supporters who relished seeing him again.
