Borussia Dortmund’s bid for Said El Mala was rejected by Köln, with the structure of the proposed bonuses sparking frustration, according to reports.
Bild reports the proposal was worth up to €44 million, with €34 million guaranteed and €10 million in add-ons against a €50 million valuation, while Sky Germany says several bonuses hinged on unlikely accolades such as Bundesliga Player of the Season, league top scorer and a Ballon d’Or nomination.
There is now a suggestion that Köln are unwilling to sell the 19-year-old to Dortmund because of how the offer was presented and the conditions attached to the bonuses.
Dortmund may yet hold an advantage, as El Mala and his family are said to prefer a move within the Bundesliga, having previously turned down interest from AS Roma and Brentford.
RB Leipzig have also been linked with the teenager, though they are likewise seen as unlikely to meet Köln’s asking price.
