Koke praises Filipe Luís and suggests he could coach Atlético de Madrid one day | OneFootball

Koke has sent a message of support to Filipe Luís, praising his work at Flamengo and reflecting on his move into management, according to Coluna Do Fla. The former Atlético de Madrid team-mates remain close.

Koke said he is proud of what Filipe is doing and how he is working. He added he meets him whenever he is in Madrid and admitted he was surprised to see him become a coach and by the success that followed.

He said he is very happy for Filipe and his family and enjoyed playing alongside him. Koke wished Flamengo well and especially hopes Filipe stays for many years, while suggesting he could be at Atlético de Madrid one day.

The pair shared a dressing room in Madrid from 2010 to 2018, playing 276 matches together. Filipe set up two goals for Koke and they won two Europa League titles.

In his first year as a professional coach, Filipe won a Copa do Brasil. In 2025 he led Flamengo to six trophies, including the Brasileirão and the Libertadores.

Flamengo are in a turbulent spell, though that could change in their next outing. They face Lanús (ARG) in the Recopa Sudamericana second leg at the Maracanã on Thursday 26, with kick-off at 21h30 Brasília time and the continental title on the line.
