Kylian Mbappé has rejected claims Real Madrid medics scanned the wrong knee, as scrutiny of the club's medical department intensifies. According to L'Equipe, he phoned Florentino Pérez to say he did not want further treatment from Madrid's doctors and would seek a second opinion in France.
Speaking in Boston before France face Brazil on Thursday, Mbappé said the wrong-knee story was untrue. He pointed to poor communication, stressed he wanted the team to win after his early January injury, and said he now feels good in both knees.
The report also said the error was repeated with Eduardo Camavinga. The midfielder hurt his right ankle on the third of December in Bilbao, trained two days later and was named to face Celta but did not play. After an MRI on the wrong ankle he was cleared, then later suffered injury and missed the next three matches.
Trust in the club's medical staff has waned for months, with players seeking external care. The report added that Madrid routinely consult the Los Angeles Lakers' doctor to compare diagnoses and set joint treatment protocols.
It said Mbappé saw French specialist Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet on the second of March, who told him he had been playing injured for about two and a half months and provided a precise diagnosis. On Monday the forward spoke of frustration and uncertainty during that spell, saying many offered opinions and he only recently received a confirmed diagnosis.
Mbappé is now working with Christophe Baudot, his former Paris Saint-Germain colleague, and in France it is claimed Baudot set the final recovery protocol. Neither his camp nor Real Madrid have commented.
