Kyogo Furuhashi's future at Birmingham City has been cast in further doubt after Chris Davies' latest comments
Birmingham City fell to yet another away defeat at the weekend, this time at the hands of Nathan Jones' Charlton Athletic, with one player's omission from the squad causing Chris Davies to cast further doubt over their Blues future.
After their incredible record-breaking promotion from League One last season, Birmingham were expected to be fighting in and around the top six places in the second tier this campaign.
Whilst they are nowhere near the relegation zone, the play-off picture has eluded them for the majority of the season, with Davies' side continually failing to mount a serious push for the upper echelons of the table.
Their latest defeat away to Charlton more or less sums up the story of their campaign, with their record on the road in particular proving to be their Achilles heel.
With the play-off places slipping from their grasp, it can only go down as a disappointing season should they indeed fail to finish in the top six, especially with promotion rivals Wrexham looking well-placed for a play-off place.
With over £50 million spent on the playing squad in the last three windows, more was expected from those additions, and from one player in particular, whose omission from the side for their defeat to Charlton on Saturday has caused head coach Davies to create further questions over his Blues future.

With Charlie Kelman's goal being the deciding factor between the two clubs, it's yet another loss for Birmingham on the road, with this latest result being their third consecutive league defeat in a row.
The Blues fielded a front line containing each of August Priske, Demarai Gray, Marvin Ducksch, and Carlos Vicente, whilst the likes of Jay Stansfield, Ibrahim Osman, Patrick Roberts, and Kanya Fujimoto were introduced from the bench. Yet, none were able to break the deadlock.
However, arguably the biggest news from the game was the omission of Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi from the squad, with the 31-year-old, who only joined in the summer for a fee which could rise to £10 million from French side Rennes, having struggled since his move to the Blues.
With just one goal in 26 league appearances, Kyogo has massively fallen out of favour at St Andrews, with Davies' latest four-word update providing a damning indication of his current state at the club.
Following his omission, when asked about why Kyogo was not included in the matchday squad, Davies said, "That’s just a selection."
With no injuries to report on, leaving his marquee summer signing out of the squad entirely sums up the Japanese international's time with the Blues thus far.
It's going to take a huge turnaround to rescue his Birmingham career from here. Though if he can't even make it onto the bench for Davies' side now, it really is tough to see a way back for him, with a summer exit almost certain at this stage.

It's been a torrid season for Kyogo by almost all accounts.
The 31-year-old lit up Celtic Park during his time in Glasgow, with his move to Rennes also not quite going to plan, leading Birmingham to part ways with an eight-figure sum this summer to bring him to the club.
He had the ball in the back of the net in Birmingham's opening home game of the season against Ipswich Town; however, it was ruled out, and since then, things haven't got much better.
Kyogo has missed numerous high-profile chances and netted just one league goal all season, coming away to already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.
With just eight starts in 26 league appearances, Kyogo is clearly not first choice at St Andrews, and at this point, looks to have been a huge mistake of a signing for Birmingham.
Whether he can revive his career with the Blues remains to be seen, though Davies' recent comments indicate that it isn't likely to happen anytime soon.
