It’s a bitter truth that FC Barcelona fans are slowly being forced to accept: Ansu Fati’s time in the iconic Blaugrana jersey may be drawing to a premature close. Once hailed as one of La Masia’s brightest prodigies in recent years, the young winger’s journey now teeters on the edge of an unfortunate end.

When Hansi Flick came in back in the summer, there was a lot of hope for Ansu Fati, who impressed the German coach during his early days here. However, the Spaniard got injured at the wrong time during pre-season and has not managed to win his coach’s trust since.

Having been sidelined from action for much of 2025, Flick gave Fati the chance to start the previous two La Liga games against Mallorca and Real Valladolid and although the Spaniard played well in the first game, he was hooked at half-time against the Pucela.

Summer exit on the cards?

As per Spanish publication Fichajes, La Liga club Sevilla have emerged favorites to sign Ansu Fati for the upcoming season. Real Sociedad and Girona also have exploratory interest, but for now, it is Los Nervionenses who are setting the pace.

What next for Ansu Fati and Barcelona?

Fati has played just 11 games for Barcelona across all competitions this season, failing to score or assist a single goal. Whenever he has played, he has looked sharp with his link-up play but seems to be lacking confidence, quite significantly.

The Spaniard no longer takes on his full-back like he once used to do, and when that confidence fades, his game becomes noticeably one-dimensional. In front of the goal, he is no longer as instinctive as he used to be and this is becoming an issue.

What is best for Barcelona and Fati: Loan or Sell?

It is becoming increasingly clear that Fati needs to move away from Barcelona to rediscover his career. However, the €5m-rated Spanish forward still has a lot of talent and the Catalan club need to decide whether to loan him out or sell him.

Once seen as the crown jewel of La Masia and the heir to Lionel Messi’s iconic number 10 jersey, Ansu Fati’s fall from grace has been as swift as it is heartbreaking. Now 22 and facing a crossroads in his career, Fati seems destined for a fresh start elsewhere. Whether through a loan or a permanent move, the summer could be the turning point he needs. Only time will tell if the talent that once dazzled Camp Nou can be reignited.
