As has been the case in recent years, FC Barcelona once again faced registration hurdles this summer. While the Blaugranes successfully registered Marcus Rashford, Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, and Marc Bernal with the first team, Roony Bardghji’s case remains unresolved.
As a temporary solution, Barcelona registered the Swedish youngster under a reserve-team contract. This allows him to train and remain linked to the squad but not formally as a first-team player.
However, the Catalans remain confident of securing his registration once the board’s €7 million guarantee and an additional €5 million in promissory notes are applied to balance their salary cap deficit.
Meanwhile, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Corporate General Manager of La Liga, Javier Gomez, discussed Bardghji’s situation in the final hours of the transfer window. In this regard, he clarified the steps Barcelona must follow if they want the 18-year-old to feature for the senior side:
“If he were registered with Barça Atlètic, as long as he doesn’t exceed the age limit, he can play. They can request the visa, and he can play for the first team. If they haven’t requested the visa—which they haven’t—he cannot play.”
Further commenting on this issue, Gomez said:
“If a boy is in a club’s youth team, or in the reserve team, and the club wants him to play in the first team, they have to request a visa, and we stamp it. To stamp it, there’s a 2022 circular that says, ‘I will authorize it, but this cannot be a loophole to bypass fair play.’ So, how much does this boy earn? Does he earn what the reserve team players earn? Fine, no problem.”
“Does he earn closer to what first-team players earn? If so, to grant you the visa, I will count him in the first team. If it’s a boy who has already been playing before, and last season played in 30% of the matches, and you ask for the visa: have you renewed his contract? Yes? Then the difference between what he earned before and what he earns now will be counted.”
The league official also clarified that the player can be registered with a first-team contract even after the end of the transfer window:
“We cannot say whether clubs have managed things well or badly. We apply rules, and if they fit, fine. If they don’t, then they don’t. We are not here to grade management. We are here to apply norms and rules. I insist: if they comply, they are within the rules; if not, then they are not. Alternatives have to be found for different situations.”
“If you want us to authorize it, you must make him fit into the first team’s fair play. The club can do this later.”
Thus, despite the end of the transfer window, there is still a lot of uncertainty about Roony Bardghji’s registration. However, the silver lining from Gomez’s comments is that Barcelona can get the player registered even after the end of the transfer window, and hopefully, they will be able to do this as soon as possible.
