According to RAC1, UEFA has granted Barcelona the green light to play their Champions League group stage matches at Camp Nou, even if the first fixture against Paris Saint-Germain is not held there.

It is to be noted that under normal circumstances, UEFA rules state that clubs must play all their European home games in a single stadium.

However, given the recent development around the ongoing reconstruction of Camp Nou, the governing body has made an exception, treating it as a case of force majeure.

Barcelona are eager to return

This decision offers relief to the club, who remain eager to return to their iconic home as soon as possible.

Over the weekend, Barcelona’s board received official confirmation from the City Council that the stadium cannot yet be reopened.

As a result, unless there is a last-minute breakthrough, the team’s upcoming league game will likely be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff in Sant Joan Despi.

Even so, the club has the backing of UEFA to make the eventual transition back to Camp Nou once the stadium is deemed ready.

Optimism around construction progress

Although uncertainty remains, there is a growing sense of optimism within Barcelona. The reconstruction work at Camp Nou has made notable progress in recent weeks.

Phase 1B of the redevelopment, which includes the side stands, is expected to be completed soon.

If the club can secure a final construction certificate or an annexe confirming the improvements, they could be granted the first occupancy permit in the near future.

The prospect of hosting Champions League nights at Camp Nou is central to Barcelona’s plans this season.

Playing at their historic stadium would not only boost the team on the pitch but also bring back the unmatched atmosphere that comes with European football in front of a packed home crowd.
