Lamine Yamal named La Liga player of the month for third time in one season | OneFootball

Lamine Yamal has been named La Liga player of the month for April, his third such award of the season for Barcelona.

According to L'Équipe, he is the first player to claim the prize three times in a single campaign since its introduction in 2013.

In April he scored two goals and provided two assists, shining in the 2-1 league win over Atlético Madrid. Barcelona won every La Liga match across the month.

The 18-year-old had already collected the honour in November and December. Antoine Griezmann managed it twice in one season in 2014-2015 and 2016-2017, Lionel Messi in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, Karim Benzema in 2021-2022, and Kylian Mbappé this season in September and October.

Yamal was substituted with an injury in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo and has a biceps femoris lesion in his left leg. He is out for the rest of Barcelona’s season, though he hopes to play at the World Cup, 11 June to 19 July, with Spain.
