Giant screens set up by the Castelló city council in Plaza Mayor and at the SOM Festival site in the Grao drew thousands to watch Spain in the World Cup final. Both venues, each holding close to 5,000, were busy throughout the match.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, 600 seats were added in the city centre to help fans follow the game. Mayor Begoña Carrasco, sports councillor Maica Hurtado and other members of the municipal corporation attended in Plaza Mayor, while Grao deputy mayor Ester Giner watched from the SOM Festival site.
Carrasco praised the public response, saying Castelló again became a major meeting point to back the national team. She noted that using two screens offered different options to experience a significant sporting occasion together.
She explained the expanded set-up was introduced after the strong turnouts for the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
Access controls were in place at Plaza Mayor to prioritise safety and comfort for attendees.
