FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit would welcome Largie Ramazani to St Andrew's this summer if they cannot secure another deal for Ibrahim Osman

Birmingham City will be on the hunt this summer for further upgrades to their squad, as they look to better their 10th-place finish in their second campaign back in the Championship.

The Blues came up from League One with the ambitions of perhaps replicating Ipswich Town's most recent success of going back-to-back to the Premier League, but in truth, Chris Davies' side were never in any real promotion contention.

A five-game unbeaten run to end the season put some gloss on the campaign, after dropping to 16th after the Easter weekend, and a mixture of arguably too many transfer additions in both the summer and the winter, plus some weight of expectation, led to a disappointing year.

Next season, with the majority of the squad settled and used to Championship football, the onus will be on adding quality, rather than quantity, and bringing in players who have won the second tier recently, who may be surplus to requirements at their current clubs this summer.

Largie Ramazani looks to be one of those, having never really been given a chance to excel at Leeds United since arriving at Elland Road ahead of their title-winning campaign a couple of years ago.

Norwich City look to be poking their heads through their former boss Daniel Farke's door to see if the Belgian wideman would be free to move back to the second tier this summer, but perhaps Birmingham should rival the Canaries, especially given their need to bring a winger to the club.

Birmingham City fan pundit discusses Largie Ramazani pursuit

FLW's Birmingham fan pundit, Jason Moore, feels that the Blues must be targeting players with Championship experience this summer to help aid their promotion bid.

While Ramazani only had one year in the second tier on his CV, he did end that campaign by lifting the title, and looked dangerous in small bursts. Per Fotmob, his six goals in less than 800 minutes ranked him atop the goals per 90 charts in the Championship last season.

So, despite playing a background role in Leeds' promotion, Moore feels that he'd know the league well enough to contribute at St Andrew's.

"The biggie for me, and I think a lot of Blues fans would echo this, is that we need Championship experience," the fan pundit said.

"We didn't have a lot of players who knew the league last season, and it killed us, so this season's all about recruiting summer quality players who know the league.

"Ramazani has had one season in the Championship, and it looked productive. I can't say I'm an avid fan of watching him. But he'll know the league, he was part of a side that went up, so if that's someone who Blues want to go and get, if we can't get Osman back, I'd be more than happy for that."

Indeed, Moore is expecting a Ramazani pursuit to come if they cannot bring Ibrahim Osman back to St Andrew's, either on loan once more from Brighton and Hove Albion, or even permanently.

The 21-year-old looked sharp at times after joining on a short-term deal in January, scoring and assisting twice, and Blues boss Chris Davies has spoken about how he would like him to stay at the club for the long-term, despite it seeming a complicated deal to make.

If Birmingham cannot agree terms with Brighton, though, Ramazani would be a very good replacement who ticks all the boxes that Moore wants in a winger at his club next season.

"We need someone direct who is going to worry full-backs," he explained. "I don't think we've got an out-and-out winger like that, especially with pace. We have Demarai Gray, but he just seems to cut inside all the time now.

"If that's the route that Blues want to go down if we can't get Osman back, I'd welcome him. He's got that Championship experience, and we need a left winger."

Birmingham City can lay down an early promotion marker by beating Norwich City to Largie Ramazani transfer

Norwich and Birmingham will be in the same boat this summer, having just missed out on the play-offs, but with optimism that they can break into the top eight next year, or perhaps even challenge for the top two.

If the Blues win the race for Ramazani over the Canaries, it could outline a clear promotion marker between the two ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old looked dangerous off the bench for Leeds, and before his ankle injury took him out of action, he was electric when starting games, netting three and assisting once in six outings.

If Birmingham offered Ramazani more game time, he could be one of the better wingers in the second tier in terms of goalscoring output, and would be a threat out wide that the Blues lacked at times last season.

The number one target would be to bring Osman back, as that would ensure continuity around the squad that finished the season together. But, if the Brighton wideman doesn't find his way back to St Andrew's, getting one over on Norwich and taking Ramazani to the West Midlands wouldn't be a bad consolation.
