Leeds near club-record £40 million move for James Trafford from Manchester City | OneFootball

Leeds United are closing in on a club-record agreement with Manchester City for goalkeeper James Trafford. According to Leeds Live, it is worth about £40 million plus bonuses.

The switch would lift outlay above £74m, with Tarik Muharemovic signed for £34m and Harry Wilson arriving on a free. Wilson made his Leeds debut against Wrexham on Sunday.

Trafford was told earlier this summer by new City manager Enzo Maresca that Gianluigi Donnarumma would remain first choice at the Etihad Stadium, prompting exit talks. Several Premier League clubs showed initial interest, but Leeds have moved to the front.

The 23-year-old hopes to succeed Jordan Pickford as England's number one and knows regular minutes are essential, something Leeds can offer.

Confirmation of his arrival could soften the stance on Lucas Perri, who is barred from leaving until a replacement is secured. Torino are keen and expected to propose a loan with an option to buy.

Perri is among the highest earners after joining last year on a four-year deal. He was dropped in January for poor performances.

Karl Darlow has left for Manchester United and Illan Meslier has joined Arsenal, leaving Perri and Alex Cairns as the only senior goalkeepers.
