1-1 draw after chances missed

In a match that our Red Bulls controlled for long spells - creating a clear advantage in terms of chances - a late goal from substitute Karim Konate seemed to have secured an away win. However, just two minutes after we took the lead, Ried struck back from a corner to hold us to a 1–1 draw. Consequently, after an intense Friday evening at the BWT Oberösterreichische Arena on Matchday 6 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, we had to settle for just a single point.

9' & 13' – Early chances and control

Our lads took control right from the start, demonstrating their intent to dominate the game with around 80 percent possession. Ried relied on counter-attacks but initially struggled to find a way through our organised play. Mazurek, Tabakovic and Baidoo all tried their luck from various positions.

28' to 36' – Chances unused, Ried battle their way in

Vertessen missed two good opportunities - once from close range and once with a header. The hosts grew bolder towards the end of the first half but rarely threatened our goal. Our defence remained solid throughout, while Ried made life difficult for themselves with simple mistakes in their build-up play.

46' to 66' – Dangerous start, then renewed hope

We kept the pressure on after the break. Vertessen, for instance, had another promising header that went just wide of the post. Subsequently, however, our attacking threat waned as the hosts found their rhythm. Highlights were scarce in the second half.

84' & 86' – Celebrations at both ends

Things became frantic towards the end. First, substitute Konate put our Red Bulls ahead with a spectacular shot with the outside of his boot. The joy over what seemed to be a winning goal was short-lived, however, as barely two minutes later, Ried’s Pomer capitalised on a corner kick to equalise for the hosts.

The match became frantic in the closing stages as both teams pushed for a winner, but the points were ultimately shared. At least we remain unbeaten this season. Now, we turn our attention to Thursday’s UEFA Europa League away opener against Levski Sofia.

We had enough chances to put the match to bed early - we had two clear-cut opportunities in the first half alone. We knew it would be a game of patience and that we had to wait for the right moments. We finally scored the opening goal, which was thoroughly deserved at that stage. We knew the opposition would be lying in wait for exactly those kinds of situations like the corner —and then you end up with just a point. We have to take responsibility for that, but we have to keep moving forward.

We slipped back into some old habits today. We could have been leading 3–0 by half-time, and the match would have been over then. If you don't take your chances at one end, you end up conceding at the other. In the end, we just needed to defend for five minutes, but unfortunately, we failed to do that. We simply had to defend that set-piece better - if we did, we would have won the game.
