The manager of L'Atmosphère, the Paris restaurant damaged during a violent clash between PSG and OGC Nice supporters on 21 May, intends to become a civil party and is seeking exemplary sanctions. According to L'Équipe, he filed a complaint within hours of the incident.
The brawl erupted near Quai Valmy on the eve of the Coupe de France final, which RC Lens won 3-1 against Nice. It spilled into L'Atmosphère in the 10th arrondissement, where nearly 100 diners were inside. The establishment was stormed and wrecked, with losses put at about 100,000 euros.
Staff remain traumatised. Based some 500 metres from Le Petit Cambodge, targeted in the 13 November 2015 attacks, they feared a terror assault as masked men arrived. Customers and employees sheltered in the kitchen or upstairs.
An investigating judge has been appointed, a step welcomed by the restaurant’s representatives. They plan to join proceedings each time a defendant appears and will seek damages and interest. Their stance is that it is not about money, as insurance covers the losses, but about ensuring severe punishment for what happened in Paris.
Police arrested 65 people, with around 10 placed under formal investigation.
