Lazio are reportedly ready to tie down Pedro to a new contract as he continues to defy Father Time with his influential displays.

The Background

The 37-year-old has been playing his football at the Stadio Olimpico since joining Roma in the summer of 2020. After a solitary campaign with the Giallorossi, he made the rare crosstown switch to Formello and swiftly established himself as a fan favorite among the Aquile.

Despite his advanced playing age, the former Barcelona and Chelsea man remains an important player at Marco Baroni’s court, albeit he’s not a regular starter. This season, he has already contributed with seven goals and four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Lazio Keen to Maintain Pedro

So according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), the Biancocelesti would like to keep Pedro beyond the current campaign, so they’re looking to renew his contract which is set to expire in June. The Roman newspaper adds that the club management still considers the Spaniard an important player both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Close Deals

On a related note, La Repubblica (via LazioNews24) reveals that Lazio are close to finalising agreements with both Adam Marusic and Christos Mandas over new deals. Like Pedro, the Montenegrin full-back is running on an expiring contract, but he remains an important solution for Baroni, especially with his ability to cover either flank.

One for the Future

For his part, Mandas has been at Lazio since the summer of 2023. While he remains a backup for Ivan Provedel, he’s considered the club’s designated goalkeeper for the future. The 23-year-old Greek remains one of Lazio’s lowest earners, so his new deal should yield a significant pay rise.
