Lazio have reportedly enquired by Federico Chiesa who has been enduring a first torrid campaign at Liverpool.
After spending four seasons at Juventus, the 27-year-old found himself cast at Thiago Motta’s court upon his return from the summer vacation. The winger was linked with a host of clubs (even Lazio at one point), but eventually joined the Reds who took advantage of his expiring contract to sign him at a cut price (€13 million).
However, the Fiorentina youth product has been serving as a mere benchwarmer in Arne Slot’s plans. He has only made 11 appearances across all competitions but has yet to start a match in the Premier League. However, the Italian made a statement last Sunday by scoring a goal off the bench in the Carabao Cup final, although it proved insufficient to deny Newcastle United’s triumph.
So according to rumours reported by TV Play, Lazio could offer Chiesa an escape route from his misery at Anfield Road. Needless to say, the Euro 2020 winner will be desperate to find himself a new club next summer. As the source explains, the transfer fee shouldn’t be a major issue, as Liverpool would be willing to accept offers in the region of €15 million plus a small sell-on fee.
However, the report notes that the Aquile might struggle to strike an agreement with the player’s entourage concerning wages, as Chiesa’s current salary is circa €7 million per year, which is more than double what every Lazio player currently earns; the source also mentions interest from other Serie A giants, like AC Milan and Napoli.
