Lazio could accelerate a free-agent signing amid the threat of a January transfer restriction, with Abdoulaye Doucoure under consideration, La Lazio Siamo Noi reports.

The club must submit their half-year financial report to Serie A's oversight commission by November 30, covering April 1 to September 30. The body will assess the numbers and determine whether to grant a market licence for January.

At this stage, Lazio are thought unlikely to meet the 0.7 labour cost threshold, with projections around 0.82. That would prevent free trading in January and could lead to a transfer ban, as in summer 2025, or a net-zero rule, as in summer 2026.

With the current window closed, only unattached players can be added, and the club retained one slot on their Serie A list after omitting Luca Pellegrini. Angelo Fabiani and colleagues are continuing to monitor free agents.

Doucoure, 33, is a box-to-box midfielder who came through at Stade Rennais before joining Watford in 2016. After four years he moved to Everton in 2020, becoming a favourite at Goodison Park.

He signed for Saudi Pro League side NEOM in summer 2025, then ended that stint after one year. He has been without a club since July.
