Leandro Barreiro will miss Benfica’s trip to St. Gallen in Thursday’s Europa League second qualifying round first leg after missing Wednesday’s training with a respiratory infection. According to Glorioso 1904, he is not in Marco Silva’s squad.

The 26-year-old Luxembourg international did not train at Benfica Campus, meaning he will sit out the club’s first competitive match of the new season, a late setback for the staff.

Marco Silva still had 28 players on the pitch and was boosted by Bruma’s return to full training following the physical problems that sidelined him from recent work.

Joshua Wynder, with a traumatic sprain to his left knee, and Jaden Umeh, who is recovering from a serious right thigh muscle injury, are also unavailable.

Gianluca Prestianni and Gabriel Índio trained with the group but are ineligible, the Argentine is serving a FIFA suspension and the Brazilian defender is not registered for the competition.

Silva is due to hold his pre-match press conference at 19:00 on Wednesday, when he should address the squad’s condition and selection for the Europa League opener.
