Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United in a dramatic Premier League late kick-off at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Reds were cruising to victory with a 2-0 lead, only for Leeds to score twice in quick succession to restore parity.

Liverpool appered to have regained control when Dominik Szoboszlai restored their lead but Ao Tanaka’s stoppage-time strike denied them the victory.

Manager Arne Slot has said that his side were shocked not to secure victory, despite playing well for most of the game.

He told the BBC: “There’s a sense of disbelief. I think we played quite well to very well during large parts of the game and went 2-0 up. I don’t think we had any problems and I don’t think we conceded a chance until the moment we make a foul which is not even a chance.

“It’s 2-1 and not many moments later the first chance they had it was 2-2. Then we go up and you think you’ve done enough to win the game and then a set piece leads to the 3-3.

“It’s not about me. It’s about us, it’s about the fans. The players have worked so hard and again to concede from a set-piece – the 10th or 11th this season. If you concede so many you cannot be higher up the table than we are.”

Slot is running out of time at Liverpool

Today’s result means Liverpool have picked up just eight points from their last 10 Premier League games, leaving them 10 points behind table-toppers Arsenal.

The Reds’ defence of their title appears to have ended just after 15 games, with Slot now facing serious scrutiny.

The Dutchman has failed to find his best starting line-up, and to get the most out of the club’s summer signings.

Additionally, the team continue to concede from set-pieces — a weakness opponents have repeatedly exploited.

While Liverpool are still backing him due to his success last season, he risks losing his job if he does not turn things around soon.

This week could prove crucial for Slot’s future at Liverpool.

They face Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday, with a loss potentially proving costly for their hopes of automatic qualification for the knock-out stages.

The Reds then host Brighton & Hove Albion in the league at Anfield, where they have not won in the last three games in all competitions — marking their poorest home run since 2021.
