A Leeds artist, Tom Pitt, and his Otley agency Hand Drawn Pixels were commissioned to design the official FIFA World Cup 2026 scarf collection. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the team produced almost 200 bespoke scarves set to be seen when the tournament opens in Los Angeles next month.
Commissioned by Global Scarves, Pitt’s studio created a unique design for every qualifier, aiming to capture football’s spirit, cultural history and supporter identity.
Each scarf was crafted to stand alone while forming a coherent range for retail, complementing a matching bucket-hat range.
Pitt described the brief as an inspiring challenge to reflect the individuality and diversity of competing nations on an iconic item. He said the final range reflects close collaboration with Global Scarves, marrying his team’s concepts with manufacturing know-how to produce pieces they hope fans worldwide will cherish.
The team researched flag colours, kit histories, cultural patterns, notable figures, artists and country-specific visual languages. Some designs nod directly to heritage, others take a contemporary, abstract route. Pitt added that the project was a major personal learning experience, offering deeper cultural insight into every nation involved.
