Leeds United have wasted no time pressing ahead with Elland Road redevelopment, with new aerial footage showing immediate changes around the West Stand, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Planning permission was granted earlier this year for a project that would eventually lift capacity to around 53,000. Leeds intend to build a new West Stand first, then turn to the North Stand to modernise the stadium and meet huge ticket demand.
Work began almost as soon as the final home game ended, with journalists asked to leave the West Stand media room by seven pm so crews could start.
The video shows the Portakabins, which served as dressing rooms for visiting Championship and Premier League teams, have gone. Supplied by York firm Britcab before the first season back in the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa to meet Covid protocols, the units were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
Other visible changes include the partial demolition of the ticket office and the building that housed some LUTV operations. Floodlights have been removed and crests taken off the banqueting suite behind the West Stand. A temporary structure behind the North Stand, expected to host corporate facilities during the works, was already rising before the season ended.
