Leeds United are pushing to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen after Wolves rejected an opening offer.

Leeds followed an initial enquiry with a formal bid this week, first reported by the Telegraph. The proposal was not accepted, but discussions are ongoing and a deal could yet be struck.

Wolves reportedly want £40 million for the Norwegian, with Crystal Palace interested amid speculation over Jean Phillipe Mateta’s future, and Nottingham Forest and West Ham also keen.

Improving yet still bottom of the table, Wolves visit Manchester City at the Etihad at three pm on Saturday. Rob Edwards confirmed the bid was rejected and said Strand Larsen has trained well and will be in the squad.

Strand Larsen has come off the bench in his last five Premier League matches. His only recent start came in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town earlier this month, when he hit a hat-trick in a 6-1 win.

He returned to the bench for last weekend’s 0-0 at home to Newcastle United, with Tolu Arokodare and Hwang Hee-Chan starting, and he replaced Arokodare five minutes after the hour.

One week on, Edwards has again named him among the substitutes for the City game, with Arokodare also on the bench. Jhon Arias comes into the XI as the only change, Arokodare dropping out.
