Leeds United have confirmed Illan Meslier will leave this summer, with the club due to publish their retained list by noon on Wednesday.
The club said in a statement that his exit will follow the expiry of his Elland Road contract, praised his key role in the 2019/20 and 2024/25 promotions, described him as a two-time champion who will remain part of the club’s history, and highlighted his strong team-mate and competitive qualities.
Signed on loan from FC Lorient in 2019, the French goalkeeper stepped up late in his first season during Kiko Casilla’s racism ban and helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side win the Championship.
Meslier was first choice for most of Leeds’ three Premier League campaigns, before Sam Allardyce dropped him for the final matches in a doomed bid to stay up.
Under Daniel Farke he remained number one for almost two full seasons, but Karl Darlow took over for the promotion run-in, ending Meslier’s first-team involvement.
The following season the gloves were shared by new signing Lucas Perri and Darlow. Meslier departs having made 215 appearances for Leeds, keeping 72 clean sheets.
