Two Leeds United supporters, Michael and Beth Pyle, both 29, have penned ‘We’re on Our Way (to Wembley)’, a terrace-style tune set to The Proclaimers’ ‘I’m on My Way’, to back the club before Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley at 3pm, their first in almost 40 years.
‘I’m on my way to Wembley with Farke and the boys,’ Beth said, recalling the line that came to her after the Norwich City game at Elland Road last month. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, they sent a first verse to The Square Ball Members’ Show, then expanded it into a full song after positive feedback.
‘I was giddy when the podcast played it because we’ve been listening to the Square Ball for years and years,’ Michael said. The pair filmed a video with friends last Saturday as Leeds beat Wolves 3-0.
Michael, from Morley, is a lifelong Leeds fan. Beth, from Southport, began following the club in 2019 during Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion season, and the couple are heading to Wembley for the semi-final.
The track has already topped 1,000 YouTube views in two days. ‘This isn’t the start of a YouTube career, it’s more like here’s the silly thing we’ve done,’ Beth said. Michael added: ‘We just hope people enjoy the silliness and the fun of the song.’
