According to Leeds Live, Leeds United remain keen to explore a move for 48-cap Germany international Julian Brandt after his Borussia Dortmund deal expired, with the prospect of a Premier League switch viewed as likelier in Italy.
Several Serie A clubs that can offer European football are interested, and Leeds have spoken with Brandt’s father and agent, Jurgen. Rival suitors remain, and the 30-year-old could prefer clubs guaranteeing European minutes after four straight Champions League seasons.
United’s pursuit underlines Daniel Farke’s desire for a natural number 10 who can also operate wide, despite Harry Wilson’s arrival. Wilson has completed his first week at Thorp Arch and is seen as a wide attacker who can fill a 10 role rather than a specialist.
Brenden Aaronson is the only senior natural 10 currently on the books. He is not due back until July 27 during the summer tour of the US.
Talks continue with Southampton over Shea Charles. Leeds are regarded as frontrunners but are ready to walk away if discussions stall.
As it stands, the squad will fly to the US on Tuesday having made two signings, Wilson and £34m defender Tarik Muharemovic, who completed his move on Friday. He will link up with the group during the tour.
Sweden World Cup star Gabriel Gudmundsson is due to rejoin around July 23.
