Sebastiaan Bornauw hinted he had not been 100% after playing only the first half of Leeds United’s 3-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Norwich City.
The player said in a post that Leeds were heading for the quarter-finals, praised his team-mates and the fans, and that he had given everything despite not feeling 100% in recent days.
It was his first start since the previous round’s penalty-shootout win at Birmingham City. On Sunday he lined up on the right of a back three with Jaka Bijol and Ethan Ampadu, before James Justin replaced him at half-time. By the interval, Leeds were 2-0 up.
Bornauw contributed to a clean sheet, with Norwich barely creating during the opening period. Daniel Farke’s side were dominant throughout.
Should Bornauw have been struggling with illness, he would not have been the first Leeds player recently. Gudmundsson endured a difficult opening 45 minutes at Aston Villa before being taken off at the break.
It was confirmed afterwards that the Swedish international defender had been ill, and he recovered in time to face Manchester City the following weekend.
With a full week before Sunday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace, Bornauw should be fit to feature if called upon.
